Real Science…
Friday, July 28th, 2006In garden news…
Monday, July 24th, 2006Fei Li’s lily finally bloomed! I think it’s the first really pretty thing that has grown in the garden, none of the other flowers really made it, but some of the bulbs may get their chance next spring. Unfortunately, last week’s yucky weather made it difficult to enjoy.
As you can see, this photo was taken at the end of a rainy day - which finally brought some temporary relief from the muggy heat. The heat, on the other hand did cause our cilantro to go flower-crazy a few weeks ago, and the result is a whole lot of coriander! I pulled out the cilantro and snipped of the coriander seeds, and we’ll see if I have the skill to actually dry them properly in our studio apartment without driving Fei Li crazy.
Anyway, this photo is an attempt to make the lily enjoyable despite weather complications. I think it succeeds at that. Plus, there is the added benefit of it being much more accessible to all of you who are not able to actually visit the garden plot.

Our garden plot!
Thursday, July 13th, 2006I don’t remember if we’ve discussed it on this blog or not yet, but one of the highlights of our summer has been our garden plot. This is the first summer we have had one, and this is a picture of our garden. Who knew you could grow edible things in the Bronx? The white flowers are the cilantro we planted, which has thrived until the recent heat, and is now going seed crazy. Elsewhere in that green mess, behind the white flowers are the carrots, green onions, and lettuce we planted.
Anyone else gardening this summer? What are you growing?

Finally a picture
Thursday, June 22nd, 2006This blog has been dying for a photo, so here’s one. Not a great shot of me, but my bride-to-be certainly looks cute, doesn’t she? This photo was taken about a year ago at the wedding of our friends Dmitriy and Monica.
Although we went home to work on wedding stuff last weekend, we did not get around to blogging about it. It’s been a crazy week, but I suppose, when is it not a crazy week? The big news is that the invitations are almost ready to go out. Just putting a few more things together. The bad news is that we ran out of the cool green paper from Chinatown… and when I went to get some more on my lunchbreak on Monday they were completely out at both of their stores in NY. In fact, to get any more, they would have to place an order with the supplier in Taiwan. So, I guess we’ll be finding a substitute.
