Sorry for the mental vomit...

May 24th, 2005 Paul Graham has written some excellent essays. (If ever there was a time for nested links.) In his latest Hiring is Obsolete, he nails down some ideas that have been running around my head ever since reading his essay on what I should have been doing in Highschool. But I digress...

...employers are just proxies for users in which risk is pooled.
And that pretty much sums it all up. When my daughter is able to read I am going to start her on Paul Graham. Okay, maybe I'll wait till she is in Jr. High, but still. If only I had known... The real question is what am I going to do about it now that I do?

Normaly I might be able to dismiss one voice, especially that from a "fringe" source, but when two people, from very different backgrounds are saying the same thing I pay attention. Now, I have some seed of the idea that some things in the foundations of computer science are fundamentally askew because the things pointed out are the same things discussed in the Prologue of On Intelligence so now that someone was willing to pay to comit the idea to paper, and two disparate sources are talking about it we should at least examine it further.

Blows up the lie that the RIAA cares about artist.

I can now fix my NY Times links! Assuming I can find the time.
