Credits and Construction Notes

This site and its contents (all files accessed via URLs beginning with "http://www.cif.rochester.edu/users/samurai/") are copyright 1998 by Michael S. Tashbook, except where individual images (most notably, the vast majority of the "Web badges" used within these pages) are the property of their respective owners.

The CIF Web badges are copyright 1998 by Michael S. Tashbook, and may be freely distributed so long as they are, in fact, distributed free of charge. Credit would be nice, but it isn't required.

How these pages were assembled

These pages were assembled using two Apple Macintosh computer systems and one Apple Newton MessagePad 2000. Text for the pages was composed with the Newton's built-in Notes application (enhanced with Stand Alone Software's excellent SuperNotepad 1.8). Other pages were composed using Bare Bones Software's freeware BBEdit Lite 4.0 text editor on an Apple Macintosh PowerBook 5300cs with 20 MB RAM and a 750 MB internal hard disk, running System 7.5.5.

Graphics

Some graphics (namely, the faceplate on the index.html page and the title "plaques" at the top of the main.html page, as well as the Web badges) were created with Adobe Photoshop 2.5 on an Apple Power Macintosh G3/233 with 32 MB of RAM and a 4 GB hard disk, running System 8.0. The photographs were scanned in with a UMax Astra 610S color scanner, and were touched up (if necessary) with Adobe's Photo Deluxe software. The image-map for the entry page was created using Green Monster Software's ImageMapper software.

The paint splash (bluesplat.gif) that I've used as a bullet around the site comes from Nova Development's spectacular Web Explosion! collection. Clip art from this collection was also used in making some of the CIF Web badges (most notably, the sponge, which became a Twinkie through the magic of Photoshop). The E-mail icon (Mail.gif) used in connection with my E-mail address is drawn from Layne Karkruff's BlueSkyIcons collection, and was converted using Dan Crevier's freeware IconToGIF utility. The crowd icon (crowd.gif) used on the Friends and Family page is the property of Be, Inc. and is used with their permission.

Fonts

The font used for the title images (for example, the faceplate on the entry page of this site) and Web badges is called "Nosferatu" ($10 shareware) and is the creation and property of Eric Oehler.

The Roundtable Newton Archives Web pages

The font used in the header images on these pages is called "Nu Casual" ($20 shareware, along with a Newton-themed Kaleidoscope theme for Macs) and is the creation and property of Martin P. Pfeiffer (the file -- the font and the scheme -- can be downloaded from the Roundtable Newton Archives, at ftp://ftp.cif.rochester.edu/pub/newton/newton-related/nucasual1.1tt.sit.hqx). The images are taken from Nova Development's Art Explosion 125,000 clip art collection, and were changed to a Web-safe color palette in Adobe Photoshop 2.5. The Jolly Roger animated Web badge is the creation and property of The Newton Underground, and is used to demonstrate my support of their pro-Newton Web campaign.

The Web Badges

Most of the Web badges contained on these pages were created by other people (the only badges that are my own creation are the CIF Web badges; details on their creation are below), and provide links to the sites from which they originated. The Iconfactory badge (ifbadge3.gif), for example, provides a link back to the Iconfactory. The pro-Macintosh Web badges were obtained from the Macintosh Badges collection, and are used with the permission of their creators. The Jolly Roger animated Web badge is the creation and property of The Newton Underground, and is displayed as a show of support for their pro-Newton Web campaign.

The CIF badges were created frame-by-frame in Adobe Photoshop 2.5, using the "Nosferatu" typeface and clip art from Nova Development's Web Explosion! collection. The frames were then assembled into animated GIF images using Yves Piguet's freeware GifBuilder program.
